Role of the Department

The Department of Sainik Welfare is responsible for the implementation of various programmes for the welfare and resettlement of ex-servicemen, their dependents and war widows.    The activities of the department include formulation of schemes for the re-orientation training and rehabilitation of ex-servicemen.  The Department maintains close liaison with all Government Offices, private and public enterprises, Banks and all prospective employers who are in a position to help ex-servicemen in their settlement.  The departments regularly organises various type of orientation training and welfare measures to help ‘the section of society’ that faces many hardships due to their long period of absence from their native State in the services of the Nation.

Conduct of works:  All activities of the Department of Sainik Welfare are organised to extend various forms of assistances to needy ex-servicemen and their dependents.

Co-ordination of work

The Department of Sainik Welfare function in close liaison with the Kendriya Sainik Board, Director General, Resettlement, Ministry of Defence, New Delhi, Director, Re-Settlement, South Zone at Pune and Command Headquarters of Navy and Air Force located in the State.  All record offices of the Defence Services and various Departments of the State Government helps the Department in the discharge of its activities relating to welfare and re-settlement of Ex-servicemen and their dependents.

The Director of Sainik Welfare Co-ordinates the work of all the 14 Zila Sainik Welfare Offices in the State according to the policy of the State Government and guidelines issued by the Kendriya Sainik Board and Director General, Re-Settlement, Ministry of Defence, New Delhi.  Various State level committees meet periodically to assess the progress of work of the Department and to outline, suggest and approve the existing schemes and new schemes.  All budgets for various welfare rehabilitation activities coming under the State Military Benevolent Fund and State Amalgamated Funds are approved by the respective Committee.

The Zila Sainik Welfare Offices carry out the registration of all ex-servicemen seeking re-employment assistance and sponsor the names aganist vaccancies reserved for ex-servicemen in the State/Central Government Departments and Public Sector Undertakings.  Zila Sainik Welfare Offices also prepare and send index cards of all ex-servicemen so registered to the respective Employment Exchanges of each district of the State so that ex-servicemen can be sponsored against general vacancies also.  They also sponsor ex-servicemen for re-employment to any other agency who notifies vacancies.  Zila Sainik Welfare Offices also recommend to Directorate of Sainik Welfare all cases of Ex-Servicemen or their Dependents needing Welfare and Financial Assistance.

The Directorate and Zila Sainik Welfare Offices disseminate all information of interest to the general public regarding the activities of the Armed Forces and rouse on intelligent interest in them of the Armed Forces.

            For the conduct of business at Headquarters, Director of Sainik Welfare is assisted by   Administrative Officer, Dy.Director, Assistant Director, Employment Officer, Section Officer and Supporting Staff.
